Important Updates & Reminders: Bylaw Vote/Info Session and Fall Meeting

We are reaching out with important community updates, a recap of our beach season, and critical information regarding upcoming membership votes and meetings.

2026 Beach Season Recap

This year’s beach season lasted just over 11 weeks, beginning on Saturday, June 13, and concluding on Labor Day, Monday, September 7. Throughout the summer, ocean conditions were particularly challenging, featuring strong rip currents, periods of heavy surf, and substantial shore break.

Our lifeguard team did an outstanding job managing these conditions and keeping our beaches safe. Please join us in extending a well-deserved congratulations to our amazing OBSC1 lifeguards for their dedication and achievements this summer. A special thank you goes out to our Head Lifeguard, Kelly Cardamone, for her exceptional leadership!

We would also like to recognize our junior lifeguards for their achievements this summer. And to extend a special thank you to our booth and clothing staff for their tremendous efforts in keeping OBSC1 running all summer long. And huge thank you to our volunteer homeowners who hosted social events and to each of you who participated in our activities throughout the summer!

Special Meeting: Critical Vote on Bylaw Amendments 

  • Date: Saturday, October 31, 2026

  • Time: 9:00 AM

  • Location: Lavallette, NJ (Details previously sent via USPS mail and email)

As communicated previously via email and postal mail, the Board of Trustees has scheduled an in-person Special Meeting for all OBSC1 members to vote on two critical proposals. This meeting was rescheduled from September 26 due to severe weather.

Proposals for Member Vote:

  • Proposal 1: Amendment to Bylaws Article XII, Section 6
    The Board has endorsed the July 30, 2026 recommendations of the Rules Committee. Full details remain available in the Homeowners Section of the OBSC1 website.

  • Proposal 2: Remote Attendance & Voting Accommodation
    The Board recommends amending the Bylaws to officially accommodate remote meeting attendance and electronic/remote voting for future member meetings.

Informational Zoom Session 

To help everyone make an informed decision prior to the October 31 vote, we will host an Informational Zoom Session on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 7:30 PM. If necessary, additional written communications will follow to address member questions.

Annual Fall Membership Meeting

  • Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026

  • Time: 10:00 AM

  • Location: Union Church of Lavallette, 25 Philadelphia Ave, Lavallette, NJ

  • Format: In-Person (A hybrid/Zoom attendance option will be offered if Proposal 2 passes on October 31)

Meeting Highlights & Agenda:

  • Voting Rules: Members in attendance will be permitted to cast one ballot per lot.

  • Trustee Elections: Annual elections for the Board of Trustees (candidate summaries and bios will be shared in advance).

  • 2027 Budget: Review and presentation of next year’s operational budget.

  • Community Updates: Marina project status and other general Club business.

Meeting materials and an agenda will be emailed to members and published on the website prior to the meeting.

Call for Candidates: Board of Trustees

Are you interested in serving your community? OBSC1 is seeking candidates to run for the Board of Trustees for a two-year term commencing January 1, 2027.

What to Expect:

  • Time Commitment: Typically 3–4 hours per week on average throughout the year, with peak responsibilities requiring 2–3 days per week during the summer season.

How to Apply:

If you would like to run, please email obsurfclub1@gmail.com no later than Friday, November 1, 2026, with:

  1. A brief statement confirming your interest in serving.

  2. A short summary of your background, qualifications, and any relevant experience you would like the membership to consider when casting their ballots.
