Summer Recap & Fall Membership Meeting Announcement
OBSC1 Members:
We hope you had an enjoyable summer and are settling into the fall season. We are reaching out with important information and updates relevant to all members.
2025 Beach Season Recap
This year’s season lasted just over 11 weeks, beginning on Saturday, June 14 and concluding on Monday, September 1, 2025. Throughout the season, water conditions were particularly challenging due to dangerous rip currents, frequent periods of large surf and substantial shore break.
During the 2025 summer season, OBSC1 lifeguards provided assistance on 62 occasions and completed 9 rescues, including support for neighboring Federation beaches during multiple-person rescues. Emergency Medical Services were contacted on three occasions for medical emergencies, and first aid was administered four times. The team responded to one report of a missing child; fortunately, the child was located and safely reunited with their guardian. There were 29 yellow flag days, 26 double yellow flag days, 16 red flag days, and 9 double red flag days when swimming was prohibited, primarily as a result of Hurricane Erin. The beach was cleared 10 times throughout the summer due to thunder and lightning activity.
OBSC1 lifeguards participated in five tournaments, securing first and third place in the Ironguard Individual Tournament hosted by OB2 as well as achieving a fourth-place finish in the team tournaments! The junior guard program was again a success this summer; we sent 17 junior guards to the tournament at Seacrest Beach, where our participants consistently placed in the top three positions across nearly every event. Please join us in extending a well-deserved congratulations to our OBSC1 lifeguards and junior lifeguards for their incredible achievements this summer. And a huge thank you to our head lifeguard, Kelly Cardamone, for her outstanding leadership!
Upcoming Meetings
Given the importance of our ongoing litigation to each one of us, the Trustees, in collaboration with our legal team, will be hosting a virtual session on Tuesday, November 4th at 7pm to provide members with an update on the latest developments and provide an opportunity for members to ask questions. If you would like to hear directly from our attorneys, please prioritize attending this session as they will not be present at our Fall Membership meeting. Zoom details will be provided in advance of the discussion.
Our Fall Membership Meeting will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00amat Union Church of Lavallette located at 25 Philadelphia Ave. An agenda and meeting materials will be posted on our website and/or emailed to members prior to our meeting.
At our Fall Membership Meeting, we will also be holding the annual Trustee elections. Serving on the Board of Trustees may require upwards of 3-4 hours/week of your time on average depending on the role and/or time of year, with some Trustees spending 2-3 days/week of effort over the summer season. If you have an interest in running for the Board of Trustees for a 2 year term commencing January 1, 2026, please send an email to obsurfclub1@gmail.com no later than Friday, October 24th, with a paragraph confirming your interest in serving and any relevant qualifications/information that you would like considered by the membership when casting their votes. Members in attendance at the Fall Meeting will be permitted to cast one ballot per lot. Candidate summaries/bios will be shared in advance of the voting process.
We look forward to seeing many of you at our virtual session on November 4th and at our in-person meeting on November 8th.
